Durham College holds virtual open house

Durham College (DC) is holding a virtual open house for prospective students Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Open house happens twice every school year, it has just moved virtually this year due to COVID-19.

Mack Hunter, DC International Admissions officer, is one of the panellists and organisers in this year’s virtual open house.

“We definitely wanted to show off our beautiful campus and support staff,” he said.

The virtual open house is a chance to look at the campus, talk to the faculty all in your own comfort zone.

“It is like watching Netflix at your house.” Mack said.

“Each program, each department will have different meeting rooms and students can ask questions.”

On April 21, DC held its first ever virtual open house. Mack said it was very useful for international students as they are not even necessarily in Canada and it would be difficult for them to come see the campus.

He said it was good those students could connect with DC online, “without actually having to catch a flight.”

The last open house in spring attracted 2,300 visitors from all over the world, including students from about 90 countries, many from India, Turkey and Latin America, Mack said.

Students can chat with the faculty and also learn different kind of supports available on campus.

“I was live the entire day and students could just drop in and ask questions,” said Mack.

Mack said that the student can, “really get an idea of what it is like to be as a student at Durham College,” with this virtual open house.
