Review of Red Dead Redemption 2

From the controversial video game creators who captured a generation, Rockstar Games Inc., comes Red Dead Redemption 2: a masterclass in open world gaming, top notch storytelling, and tangible replay ability.

This action-adventure set in the wild west acts as a prequel to Red Dead Redemption, also from Rockstar, and follows a gang of thieves, familiar to those who played the original.

However, Red Dead Redemption 2 works as a standalone.

The storytellers at Rockstar have done an excellent job introducing new characters, such as protagonist Arthur Morgan, as well as building upon established characters.

Those unfamiliar with the previous game will have no problem saddling up and following along, but hold on because this game is a long and wild ride.

Estimates of the time it takes to finish the main storyline in Red Dead Redemption 2 range from 40 – 60 hours, with many more hours of game time needed if you wish to complete all the side-missions and attain 100 per cent completion.

The map size alone is the largest Rockstar has ever created and traversing the landscape is done by sheer horsepower, literally, so choose wisely when deciding which trusty steed you will use to climb rocky mountains and navigate gator-filled swamps.

The main story revolves around gunslinger and outlaw, Arthur Morgan, and his escapades with the Van der Linde gang.

The gang is on the run from the law after a robbery gone wrong has left some members at odds with each other, and some mortally wounded.

As strife within the gang builds, Arthur becomes distrusting of the gang’s leader, Dutch Van der Linde.

This conflict comes to a head when the law closes in and the gang’s loyalty to one another is divided.

Throughout the story, Arthur questions the life he has lived and what kind of man he wants to be in the end.

These decisions are up to you and are decided by how you wish to play the game.

This decision-based platform provides you the opportunity to play the game over and over, changing the type of Arthur Morgan you wish to be upon each playthrough.

Maybe you want to be the honourable cowboy who sees the error of his ways and attempts to right his wrongs, or maybe this time all hope is lost for Arthur and he remains an evil gunslinger to the end.

However you decide to play Red Dead Redemption 2, there will be no shortage of fun and excitement as you hunt, ride, shoot, rob, swindle, loot and survive in the wild west.

The games’ open world environment, intricate story, and multiple outcomes make it a must-play action-adventure.

Rockstar has once again showed why they are the gold bar standard with Red Dead Redemption 2, and lets face it…gold bars move fast in these parts.
